North Dakota Nuptials | Aaron & Erin’s Grand Forks Wedding

Aaron and Erin laughing together

Aaron and Erin got married in Grand Forks, North Dakota at a wedding that was charming, heartfelt, and full of love. With a beautiful ceremony venue and a fun-loving wedding party, their day was the perfect way to spend a Saturday.

The two got married at Calvary Lutheran Church, which provided an intimate setting with a  gorgeous courtyard for their first look and their bride and groom photos. Their church’s many windows meant that the whole place was bathed in warm light for their ceremony, which featured several tear-jerking musical performances. Following their ceremony, the couple was greeted by thousands of bubbles blown by their loved ones before they hopped on a limo to their reception site!

Their reception took place at Alerus Center, which they decked out in greenery, candles, and navy blue accents. Their guests came ready to dance, and were happy to join the newlyweds on the dance floor.

Aaron and Erin, thank you for having us out to North Dakota to be a part of your big day!

A Match at Minnehaha | Delaney & Zachary

Engaged couple posing in front of minnehaha falls

Delaney and Zachary are a great match. Both have a love of Minnesota sports teams, concerts, and traveling! Plus they match, literally, so well in their blue ensembles!

Minnehaha Falls is one of our favorites places for engagement photos because it has so much versatility. There are always classic spots that you have to stop (the waterfall, anyone?) and there are so many more tunnels, paths, and bridges to explore. Thanks for wandering the park with us, Delaney and Zachary! We can wait to explore Almquist Farm with you two next fall.

Number One | John & Nova’s Maternity Photos

Newborn jersey with the number 1 on it
You might remember John and Nova from their fall-themed wedding, or their paint-covered trash the dress shoot! These two are a blast, and we are ecstatic that they will be welcoming their first child in just a few short weeks, with their due date on September 13.  They don’t know the gender of their baby yet, but they do know that their kid will be their #1.

We love seeing the families that we work with grow, and having the opportunity to document them throughout their lives. Congrats John and Nova, we can’t wait to meet your little one.

Looking Back at First Looks, and Why You Should Have One!

excited bride during first look
There are a million and one reasons to have a first look. We love them because they make for some of the most emotionally-charged wedding photos.  There are plenty of reasons not to as well, such as tradition or logistics, but we find that your whole day is improved by seeing your soon-to-be-spouse prior to your ceremony. We’re going to lay out some of our reasons that we love for our clients to have a first look on their wedding day!

You get to choose to keep an intimate moment to yourselves, or to not.

Any too-intense emotions that overwhelm you during a first look won’t be as public as they would be if they were to happen when you were walking down the aisle. On the flip side, you can have your wedding party or your family peep in on your first look and share in the moment. Annie and Tyler chose to have their parents on the sidelines during their first look, letting them share in this intimate moment.

Any opportunity that we have to make beautiful photos should be taken.

Lighting in churches and similar ceremony sites is normally fairly bad, but with a planned-out first look you can have a gorgeous location, perfect lighting, and impeccable photos of you seeing your spouse for the first time on your wedding day. That’s not a moment that you want to be ruined by dim, yellow church lighting or embarrassment over the fact that you’re bawling in front of everyone you know. See how sweet this outdoor setting is for Brooke and Aaron‘s first look?

You get to spend more time with the love of your life on the biggest day of your lives.

Having a first look can ease some of the anxiety that comes with waiting to see your significant other. Any stress that can be alleviated on a wedding day should be! Once you’re in the arms of your spouse, the rest of your day feels like nothing. Shoot, you’re ready to face the rest of your lives. This quiet, personal moment between Sally and Daniel is heartwarming and deserves its own place and time!

You deserve to show off how good you look to everyone!

Traditionally, a first look takes place between the two parties getting married. However, it’s a fun opportunity to do a first look with a parent, a friend, or your wedding party! Laura chose to surprise her bridal party with her dress, and their reactions were everything!

Logistically, it just makes sense.

If you see your partner before your ceremony, you have more time to do couples photos, wedding party photos, and family photos before the ceremony even takes place. This can remedy a lot of the stress of trying to get everything done before making it to your reception. And besides, nobody has ever complained about having too many photos of them and their spouse! Your first look can naturally transition into couple photos, with both of you feeling joyful and at ease. Nina and Karen are the perfect example of this!

A CardNole Love | Taara and Glenn’s McNamara Wedding

Glenn kissing Taara on her forehead

We are obsessed with every aspect of this wedding. Taara and Glenn sported super classic looks, Glenn in a black suit and Taara wearing a ball gown style dress with a gorgeous lace neckline. Many of their wedding details referenced “A CardNole Love,” a nod to their college football teams, Taara’s Stanford Cardinals and Glenn’s Florida State Seminoles. They even wore shoes repping their respective teams to their reception!

Taara got ready at Hotel Ivy, with her makeup done by the fabulous Mia from WarPaint International. This luxury hotel is the perfect site for bridal portraits and wedding party photos, with plenty of shimmering backdrops and an impeccably lit skyway.

Forgoing a first look, Taara and Glenn were both ecstatic when Taara came down the aisle, having a quick ceremony before darting outside to spend some time alone after their ceremony. Their venue, the McNamara Alumni Center, sits on a manicured lawn that makes you forget you’re in the middle of Stadium Village, even with a Minnesota United game happening just across the street. The venue also features high, geometric windows, which let ample sunlight in throughout the evening, which shone off of their gold-accented ceremony and reception.

The McNamara Alumni Center is even cooler when you look up, with their geometric windows and rows of office. Check out that shot of Taara and Glenn high above their wedding guests towards the end of the post!

Taara and Glenn’s wedding was beautiful in so many ways. It was emotional, all of the details worked together perfectly, and Taara and Glenn are just so much fun. Thank you to this incredible couple for an incredible day!
