Proposal on the Stone Arch Bridge

This week’s Paparazzi Proposal was dark, secretive, and romantic as ever.  Cody wanted to propose to Mallory on the Stone Arch Bridge, at night, overlooking the Mississippi river with the city lights of downtown Minneapolis ablaze in the background. It was such a perfect summer night… all the plans were in place, and I had a great (secret) vantage point a few yards away.  Because it was so dark, Cody and I had to strategize beforehand about how to get Mallory placed directly under a street lamp when he popped the question, so that she would be illuminated and I could still capture her reaction in the moment with my camera.  I have pretty nice equipment, but even today’s technology needs some light to work with!

Once she was in place, Cody directed her attention to the river, and as she was looking over the railing of the bridge, he positioned himself behind her so that eventually she turned around to see him on one knee with a ring in his hand.  It was absolutely perfect!  And what’s more, she said yes!  After a few sweet moments of hugs, kisses, and some happy tears, Cody pointed me out and the couple posed for a few more photographs.  The whole night couldn’t have gone more smoothly.  Great work, Cody!  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your surprise!

**If you would like to book one of these proposal photo sessions, please contact Paparazzi Proposals at 1-888-287-5120, ask for James, and tell him you want me (Preston Palmer with Brovado Weddings) as your photographer.

Brooks’ Newborn Pictures in Excelsior, MN

Jenna and Ryan have been my clients and friends for some time now, and I absolutely LOVE being their go-to photographer!  They are just so cool, and they have a beautiful (growing) family.  We’ve done a number of photo shoots together, from their engagement and wedding photography, to maternity sessions, family pictures, and now…. newborn portrait session #2!

WELCOME, LITTLE BROOKS!  We are in love with his tininess, his mellow personality, his healthy appetite and his fire red hair.  Jenna and Ryan swear they don’t know where the redheaded trait comes from, neither of them had it as a child… But Brooks and his older brother Beau are definitely rocking the ginger genes!

Thanks for the fun day at your beautiful new house in Excelsior, you two!  It is absolutely gorgeous… I can’t believe you packed and moved while Jenna was 8 months pregnant, with toddler Beau in tow!  But I’m glad you can both finally relax and have a beer at your outdoor bar. 😉  Enjoy these family and newborn photos!

Allie and Brian’s Engagement Pictures at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

Allie and Brian’s will be the third Stillman family wedding that I photograph within 5 years.  I love getting referrals from past wedding photography clients, and I love already knowing the whole family at a wedding.  When you’ve worked with a group before, everything is more natural and effortless, and the wedding photo sessions can be that much more fun!

Allie and Brian have been together for some time… I got to see them both when they came out to Hawaii last year along with Lauren and Jason for their mother’s wedding on Maui.  Allie is a certified Bikram Yoga instructor, and we had some fun during her engagement photo session at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden with Brian by getting some great photographs of her yoga poses as well!

A Fairytale Proposal and a Stillwater Wedding

Stillwater Wedding Photography at StoneRidge Golf Club
Nick’s proposal to Jennifer was the stuff of fairytales.  First she sat down with her future in-laws next to a picturesque pond at their house, where she watched a video Nick had made in secret that would only begin to express what their relationship meant to him. When the video finished, she was led into the backyard where a tent had been adorned with beautiful flowers and lanterns, and inside, there was a card. The card led her to a lake, where the walkway was lined with lanterns. The lanterns led down some stairs and along a dock. The water around the dock was filled with floating candles and lights. At the end of the dock stood Nick, and when Jennifer walked toward him, he got down on one knee and proposed.

Pretty romantic, no? Well the best part was that Nick had also secretly invited Jennifer’s twin sister from New York, and after the newly engaged couple had a few moments to themselves, the whole family came down to the dock to celebrate with them!

I had a blast photographing Nick and Jennifer’s Stillwater wedding.  As you can tell from the story, Nick is quite detail-oriented, and that always makes for some great wedding pictures! The yellow/grey wedding colors added a beautiful splash of color to the overcast day, and the ANTIBOOTH horse mask props were a hit at the wedding dance.  My favorite part of the day, however, had to be the precious moment where the little ring-bearer’s sign fell apart as he ran down the aisle, and I captured the frame-by-frame of his epic fall when he slipped on the pieces that landed right under his feet! Don’t worry, no children were harmed in the making of these wedding pictures…. It was pretty funny, though. 🙂
